Data Justice

Data Justice

Democratic decision-making, free expression, and access to trustworthy information are central to a free society. Yet today, algorithms increasingly shape what we see, what we read, and what holds our attention, whilst personal data is quietly collected, analysed, and monetised.

Young people and young adults are among those most exposed to these dynamics. From addictive platform design to constant surveillance, many experience a loss of control over their privacy and digital behaviour , often without fully realising how these systems work.

In partnership with Tactical Tech, we employ screenings of iHuman alongside (real life) games, open conversation, and participatory workshops, this project works primarily with young adults in schools and educational settings. Rather than warning or lecturing, it creates space to explore how social media platforms use personal data, how algorithms influence content and behaviour, and why this matters - not only for individuals, but for society as a whole.

By making these mechanisms visible, the project helps young adults to recognise that their data is powerful and valuable. Equipped with this understanding, they are better able to make informed choices, protect their privacy, and engage with digital spaces in ways that support autonomy, wellbeing, and democratic participation.
