Through its Breastfeeding Information Groups (BIGs), civil society organisation Karibuni Kenya supports teenage mothers in rural Kenya to return to education and build self-determined futures.
Teenage pregnancy remains one of the major barriers to girls completing school or college, often exacerbated by stigma, lack of family support, and limited access to resources. BIGs begin with screenings of the documentary Milk, which bring young mothers together and create a safe space to tell their story. Participants then take part in workshops and mentoring groups where they receive practical guidance on sexual and reproductive health, birth spacing and nutrition. Each group runs for twelve months and is mentored by health professionals and educational leaders to facilitate the girls' return to school and college. On average, 92% of the BIG mothers go back to, and manage to complete, their education .

Alongside the BIGs, local teachers are trained in Sexual and Reproductive Health workshops which are implemented at schools across the county.
Now in its fourth installment, the programme has supported over 900 teenage mothers and reached more than 13,000 households, forging long-standing partnerships between local and national youth and educational initiatives.
