Newborn deaths account for nearly half of child deaths under the age of five. According to UNICEF, exclusive breast-feeding for the first six months of a child’s life can cut infant mortality by one million. Our goal is to raise awareness in the countries where breastfeeding is most crucial; where mothers do not have access to clean water and dangerous misconceptions prevail, as little is known about the importance of breast-feeding.
Through an intimate and artistic lens, Milk brings a universal perspective on the politics, commercialisation and controversies surrounding birth and infant feeding over the canvas of stunningly beautiful visuals and poignant voices from around the globe. Inspiring, informative, provocative and sensitive, Milk celebrates bringing a new life into this world with a strong call to action and reflection.
""Health workers do not get good training in infant nutrition. It's something that is missing in the medical curriculum."" - Francesco Branca - Director of Nutrition, World Health Organization HQ
Working with Filmblanc, the former Head of Nutrition at the Ministry of Health, Karibuni-Kenya and local health authorities, DocImpact is taking eight screenings of Milk to the Bungoma and Busia counties.
The workshops accompanying each screening are led by experts and clarify the benefits of breast-feeding, offer practical advice and supply educational tools, so that health workers will be equipped to not only implement their knowledge, but also share it with their peers and community.
